Relive Jr. High at Your Own Risk

Reviewed by Bruce Cantwell

Todd Solondz must have had a hell of a time in Junior High.

Did you enjoy being twelve? Tell the truth now. Oh, sure, The Wonder Years was nostalgic, but whether the creators of the show had a better time of it, or whether years of analysis and Prozac have tamed the savage memories, they tip-toed around the seventh grade as walpurgisnacht.

Writer/director Todd Solondz brings back all of the gory details. He also makes us laugh.

I see so few natural kids in films that when an actress like Heather Matarazzo takes center stage as an all-around dork, it's a very pleasant surprise.
